** Chilly Tuesday with Sierra Snow, Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail possible today for the foothills **
Lots of weather to talk about! A chilly start to the day here at the Shores as a relatively cold upper low is situated near the Bay Area this morning. This weather pattern is a bit unusual but not unheard of for this time of year. I had to even fire up my wood stove this morning, a little late in the year for that. Light snow is even being reported over Donner Summit and in parts of the Truckee / Tahoe areas this morning as well. As a result, the NWS has posted a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra until 9 PM this evening for up to 2″ of snow above 6000 ft and up to 5 inches possible above 7000 ft. So, if you’re headed to the mountains today, carry your chains.
Current radar is showing wraparound moisture off the Sierra moving in from the NE this morning and light sprinkles/showers are falling around the upper foothills. The low is forecast to move inland later today, so expect a mixed bag of weather today for the foothills.. Some areas may see periods of heavy rain at times, also hail with thunderstorms, other areas may only see light showers. If you haven’t already done so, now is a good time to cover your crops to protect from the hail.
Highs today will remain cool, with upper 50’s at best for the Cascade Shores / Banner areas with low 60’s in the GV / NC areas.
Showers should end by Wednesday morning with dryer / warmer weather expected into the weekend. Highs will quickly recover into the 70’s Thursday with upper 70’s to low 80’s by the weekend.
