Our strong cold front blew through the area this morning with wind and heavy rain. Unsettled conditions continued through much of the day. Storm totals for Western Nevada County were close to what we originally forecast a couple of days ago. Grass Valley received anywhere between 2/3 to 3/4″ of an inch of rain, Nevada City picked up anywhere from around 3/4 to about an inch of rain, higher foothill locations such as Banner Mountain, Cascade Shores, 5 Mile House/ Hwy 20 received just over an inch of rain. It was still raining here at the time of this post. The high Sierra picked up a few inches of snow as well, chain controls were even required on interstate 80 for a time today.
Just a note, we now have over double the rainfall locally in Cascade Shores then we did at this time last year. That’s awesome news!
Expect showers to decrease locally over the next hour or so. Scatter snow showers should continue in the Sierra above 6500 feet with minor accumulations possible. Skies should gradually clear overnight locally and become mostly sunny for Sunday.
Week high pressure over Northern California will keep skies mostly sunny until midweek at least. We may see another storm arrive toward the end of the work week with more rain possible.
Highs should range in the 50s Sunday recovering into the 60s to low 70s next week before cooling once again toward the end of the week. Lows should remain mainly in the 40s for the next several days.
