Light to occasionally moderate rain has been falling most of the night and during the day in the foothills under a moist SW flow off the Pacific. We’ve picked up a 3 day storm 2.42″ inches of rain so far at the Shores with more rain in the forecast.
Snow fell in the Sierra above mainly 6000 ft with several inches of new snow reported on Donner summit with light amounts around the Truckee/Tahoe areas.
Expect more rain to move through interior northern California this evening as another wave moves through the area. Snow will also fall in the Sierra this evening with up to 6 inches possible above 6000 ft. A Snow Advisory is in effect until 10 PM this evening.
After unsettled weather and possible showers Monday, Rain and high elevation snow will again spread across the area on Tuesday as low pressure approaches the Central California coast. The low is expected to move north along the coast on Wednesday continuing the precipitation in the area.
This system is expected to be wetter and warmer with snow levels ranging 7000 or higher with 2 feet+ of new snow possible above 7500 ft over the next several days. Snow levels may drop at times below 7000 ft during the period.
Expect local rainfall to be in the 2.5-3.5 inch range (possibly more) here in the foothills next week. Periods of moderate to heavy rain at times could lead to mud and debris flows over the burn areas from last summer. So be on the alert for that.
Beyond Wednesday, the forecast looks unsettled with showers possible into next weekend. Look for daytime highs mainly in the 50’s with lows in the 40’s for the foothills.
