All said, our strong storm did not disappoint. Virtually from the Oregon border to the central coast, eastward through the central valley and into the high Sierra, we saw very impressive rain and mountain snow. Along the coast, where the storm was stalled for much of the day, experienced extremely heavy rainfall. For example, much of the north and central coast received between 5 to 6 inches of rain. However, there were portions of Napa, Sonoma, and Monterey counties that saw upwards of 7 to 10+ inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Some locations saw more rain today than they did from the last 5 day total from the strong storm last week.
Around the foothills, we’ve received between 2.75 – 3.5 or so inches of rain out of this last storm with more rain on the way for Friday. Thankfully locally the winds weren’t as strong as forecasted, other places around the state weren’t so lucky as 100,000 residents lost power today statewide.
Snow levels have dropped in the Sierra to around 5000 feet with chain requirements this evening on both highway 20 and interstate 80. The Sierra may see up to a foot of snow below 6000 feet and 2 to 3 feet above that by the weekend.
On Friday, it should be cloudy, cold and showery in the foothills with the snow level 4000 to 4500 feet. The weekend looks partly cloudy and cold with lows in the 30s and highs mostly in the 40s. Another colder storm is forecast to move in Sunday night into Monday. Snow levels again should range between 4000 to 4500 feet with snow levels flirting with the upper foothill locations.
